Well, I didn’t get anything in Oliver! I gave a damn good audition (on my birthday, no less) and made callbacks…a dance audition during which I worked my ass off and made a fool of myself, yet still had fun…and then the third-round reading/singing audition the following night. I have no regrets about what I did…I was, in fact, one of the few prepared auditionees who actually knew his song(s) and had his act together. Naturally, that means nothing in the long run, especially when you’re auditioning at a community theatre where the resident director frequently casts himself in the productions. Sour grapes? Naaah…I made out all right. Was looking on Facebook Saturday night at the various local theatre seasons and ran across that for the Canal Fulton Players…they’re doing The Lion in Winter, a play that I’ve always wanted to do, and they were looking for an actor to play Phillip of France, a role that I’ve always wanted to play. I contacted the director, he told me to come down Monday night and read for it (in spite of the fact that I’m really ten years too old for it), I did, and I got the part. So, I think I’m where I’m supposed to be. A very friendly, welcoming atmosphere and a great group of people (as opposed to some of the ones from PG who see you out in public and look right through you). All’s well that ends well, and I know I’ll get my chance to do Fagin in Oliver! eventually. We open October 22nd.
